KAIST is working on a dual degree with Northwestern
Law School, one of the top law schools
in the United States.

This course provides students with in-depth training on the US legal system.
Through this process, students will have the opportunity to broaden their legal knowledge
base and experience career upgrades such as entry into new areas.

At Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, longstanding legal traditions and experience go hand in hand with dynamic curricula, practica, and forward thinking. Here, theory meets practice and thought meets action.
Our distinguished faculty bring decades of experience and expertise, and our ground-breaking curriculum is immersive and constantly evolving. As a result, Northwestern Pritzker Law students not only grow as great thinkers, but as confident practitioners ready for an ever-changing legal landscape.
Nestled in the third largest city of the United States, Northwestern Pritzker Law is home to one of the country’s largest legal markets, as well as countless courts, firms, corporations, and not-for-profits. Just around the corner, you’ll also find sandy beaches, world-renowned museums, exciting sports teams, and a thriving culinary scene—making Northwestern a spectacular setting in which to live and study.
In law school, students know that their support for each other is vital to their success. That’s why we’re dedicated to fostering a collegial, noncompetitive environment—starting with our approach to the admissions process. We’re the only top law school in the country that makes interviewing available to all applicants, and we use it as a way to get to know you—your abilities, strengths, and motivation.
Welcome to Northwestern Law. We’re excited to meet you.

Courses include subjects related to legal affairs at a corporate level, contract on international business, international trade, foreign investment and intellectual properties. Classes in Korea will be delivered in the evenings of weekdays and in the weekend to allow the students to go to work and study at the same time. Classes outside Korea will include visiting the US court, American Bar Association and a law firm headquartered in Chicago. The course will be run in the same way as an American law school is run, with high-quality lectures and discussion sessions led by the top professors.

Who is this program for?

o Those who have a bachelor of Laws (or candidates)
o Those who have a lawyer or patent attorney certificate
o Those in charge of legal affairs of a corporation/enterprise

Once you complete the program, you will be granted an LLM degree of Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law as well as a degree of Master of Science in Future Strategy or a degree of Master of Arts in Future Strategy from KAIST MIP.
For those who do not have a bachelor of Laws or are not candidates for a bachelor of Laws, MSL (Master of Studies in Law) degree will be granted instead. Those who are currently going through a bachelor of Law or planning to do so will have to submit the certificate of (expected) enrollment. They will be granted a degree of LLM only if you obtain the bachelor of Laws before graduation. (Once you are granted an MSL degree, you will not be able to change the degree to LLM even if you obtained the bachelor of Laws after finishing the course).

NLaw LLM + KAIST MIP Dual Degree Program is not solely for acquiring practicing certificate in the US. Some of the US states do allow students to take the bar exam with an LLM degree, but as this is at their discretion, there is always a possibility of  changes. Furthermore, since education background of every individual is different, those interested in taking the bar exam must inquire the Board of Law examiners of a certain state themselves.
